Fake news - real PRoblems!

‘’Fake news’’ has to be one of today’s most spread occurrences that have befallen the world of both media and PR globally. It is safe to say that PR professionals and journalists should join forces on this one...


This term is considered to cover stories that contain misinformation and propaganda with sensationalist headlines made to be clicked on, usually of shocking character. Accordingly, professionals are becoming more aware of this trend and are tend to check their sources more frequently and in detail.


The content of fake news is ultimately made up and manipulated, with the intention of resembling real and trustworthy journalism in order to attract more audience. It is based on false facts and information that can either follow an already existing story or be the beginning of a new one. Nevertheless, those pieces of misinformation are aimed only toward profit – advertising gets more clicks, with more clicks come more visitors, which ultimately leads to more traffic on the site ending with financial benefits (the only motive behind copy paste & fake journalism).


In the PR community it is very important to constantly stay up-to-date with the latest trends, news and events, so the use of both traditional and social media is crucial. PR professionals need to always provide their clients with real news and stories which effect their business and brand image on a daily basis.

It is safe to say that false news have shaken the media and PR communities all over the world as there are more and more platforms trying to fight false content with red flagging and similar pointers. The best way to turn this into a positive setback is to encourage professionals to double the checks of sources and to genuinely create their own content while regularly connecting with news rooms of legitimate background.
