As all good things come to an end so does my masters course after one year. I know that winter is not the usual time for a course to be finished, but my university (University of South Wales) offers February enrollments, so I have actually started last year during winter time and am finishing my modules now. Of course I still have my dissertation to write and submit, and hopefully graduate in June in a beautiful Welsh weather.
Looking back on my last term as a student, I have to admit that the journey has been bumpy and challenging at times, but overall - exciting and pleasant. My tutors at the USW made their best efforts to make the classes interesting and useful for the future in business and PR, also making themselves available to us students for all requirements at all times, and for that I am very thankful.
Reflecting more on my blog - in the beginning I was struggling with even coming up with topics to write about and happenings to comment on critically. However, as the weeks passed by I learned to a greater extend how to express myself, discovered more interesting techniques in public relations as a profession and also how to handle keeping my blog alive even at times I felt like giving up.
One of my first posts was on fake news and in this post it is very obvious that I'm still getting used to doing the blog on my own and changing my academic writing style to a more journalistic one.
It took me a while to get adjusted to this change, and in the mean time our course leader organized a video meeting with a PR professional Richard Bailey. After hearing him talk, I felt more motivated than ever and also dedicated one of my posts to him. I started exploring more trends in PR and truly dedicated myself to finding my own voice in this blogging process.
Further on, the post on Christmas ads is one of my favourite as it is the first post where I expressed my feelings fully. It was fun for me to feel free with my thoughts and words which only gave me a greater inspiration to continue revealing ways to improve my writing style as well as cover interesting topics with fresh insights.
In the end I just want to mention one of the latest posts I wrote. It covered the topic of a recent crisis from McDonald's and I really felt like a blogger in this one - I connected the story of previous issues the fast-food restaurant has had with the current one and also took a subjective approach at the end. I am always trying to be as objective as possible, but also think that sharing my point of view is important as it is my blog which means my voice.
Even though my uni lectures are done, I will definitely continue to post at least once a week in order to stay up to date with the latest news and trends in the marketing and PR world. Now let's get jolly and merry and enjoy the holidays with some cinnamon rolls and mulled wine! 🎄
